I recently received an artist grant to study and produce artwork based on portable cassette players/recorders, cassettes and the culture and music that surrounds it. It’s an ambitious project that will take a year to complete and this painting is the first of many to be part of the series. I’m pretty obsessed and driven by tapes and records already, so this will be a wild, spontaneous and very enjoyable “mixtape” of fun! Stay tuned!
Did I mention I take pet commissions? I love dogs, especially blue ones, in this case his colour was closer to black, but this is what I saw. Message me to inquire about commissions which isn’t restricted to animals.
SOLD
Pet portrait commission. I don’t know if I’ve done a piece so small before, but it was needed to fit into a 5” x 7” frame for a tabletop. Yes, I can draw, paint or make prints of your furry friend or your hairless ape friend, as well. Message me to inquire.
SOLD
The iconic Sony Sports Walkman! I own three difference Sports versions and this one is pretty basic with no radio and a slick smooth finish. It still works, of course and I’ve started to walk around town listening to tapes again. Not that I ever stopped, but technology has gotten smaller, better sounding and wireless, but to me nothing beats the coolness of the Walkman! This was a screen print that needed a colour boost, so the bold brightness of acrylic markers helps.
SOLD
Another rabbit drawing to pair with a previous bunny pic (Begging Rabbit). Pen and ink is probably the medium I enjoy the most, maybe it’s because it’s the most immediate for results and accessible, as basic as a pen and paper.
I have digital signed prints for sale! $20 CDN. Message me.
Walkman with all the basic options, auto reverse, mega bass, anti-rolling and radio that spent years serving as the kitchen radio. Trying different mediums for each model and I’m sure they’ll be more watercolour renditions.
Map of the city of Winnipeg after the Fall provincial election when the NDP (orange) formed a majority government, defeating the incumbent PCs (blue). A fun exercise of colour and fine penmanship.
A portrait of a late-great furry friend is a nice way to commemorate your beloved pal. I’m flexible, so a painting or drawing or whatever medium suits your pet is fine. Contact me for more information.
SOLD
Another pet commission piece of a very cute cat. Your cute pet can also be captured on canvas or wood or paper, whatever medium you want! Contact me if you’re interested.
SOLD
One of two commission pieces (Blue grey cat) for a client that was referred from another client. Keep spreading the word! …And those eyes! Enjoyed working on this painting.
SOLD
The title is the model number of this Sony Walkman. I liked the blue and silver colour of this one and has a sleek model styling. Colour pencil on black paper brings out the colour and texture quite nicely. This is part of my #Walkmanseries I posted on Instagram with many more to come! Stay tuned!
Everyone that grew up in the 80’s owned a Walkman, especially if they wanted to listen to music on the go. This is my tribute to the iconic Sony Sports Walkman!
A commission piece for a friend of mine’s adorably cute dog.
SOLD
Portrait of my brother’s beloved dog, Bernice, who sadly passed away this past year. A gift.
SOLD
As part of #inktober, I did a series of pen & ink drawings for practice. I used pretty much the finest tip pens to get the detail and fluff of the fur. it took a lot longer than I hoped. Bunnies are always a favourite subject matter!
Digital signed print now available! $20 (unframed) message me.
Hand painted on vinyl record. Originally, Art Tatum album cover art. The Young Fresh Fellows did a homage to this album cover on their, The Men Who Loved Music record.
I painted Spidey directly on the LP, leaving the rest of the record unpainted. Nice effect, maybe more in the future…no quality records were harmed in the painting!
The beloved French singer drawn with colour pencil on black paper. Really enjoyed drawing this one!
Singer/songwriter, Juliana Hatfield performed a series of livestream concerts during the COVID pandemic. This image was taken from one of those concerts. I love working with colour pencil on colour paper, because the colours seem to literally pop out from the background. A fun piece to work on, especially since she’s been one of my favourite performers since the 90’s.
Canadian singer/songwriter, Kathleen Edwards (Kitty is her nickname) has often professed her love of hockey, which automatically gives her a place in my heart. This image was taken from the CD insert from her excellent debut album, Failer which was recently reissued on vinyl. I used a mixture of black and brown ink diluted with water to create a wash effect.
A gift for a friend of mine who owns a gorgeous dog much like this portrait. Enjoy painting these informal portraits and I am open for commissions of your favourite pet or person.
SOLD
My first attempt at a “pet portrait”, so this was a prototype for another dog piece. Suppose to be more fun than a super accurate portrayal of your fur friend.
I would consider commissions if you want a painting of your cat or dog or rabbit or your fish…message me through the Contact page.
Scratchboard is basically the reverse of pen & ink and you can get a much finer line for even more detail. You need a steady hand, but I really like the results. Pixies fans will recognize the dog.
Painted on canvas board, I used paint and acrylic markers to give the colour some extra pop. This was just for fun and an excuse to paint a Pokemon.
I can probably paint other Pokemon, so if you want a specific character, let me know on the Contact page.
My first love, comic art with my favourite character, Spiderman! Image taken from the animated TV show from 1967, when he swings through another dimension. The combination of acrylic paint and markers is an excellent medium for this piece, I like the abstract background. Fun!
Acrylic markers are an ideal medium for comic book style art with their bright colours and standout quality. Scene from a Spiderman comic with the first appearance of Mary Jane Watson.
I don’t usually paint landscapes, but the shadows under the bridge interested me. There are a lot of great places to draw in Winnipeg, hopefully I can get out more on-location.
